She Used to Be Mine – 35 Things I Would Say to the Old Me

She’s imperfect, but she tries
She is good, but she lies
She is hard on herself
She is broken and won’t ask for help
She is messy, but she’s kind
She is lonely most of the time
She is all of this mixed up
And baked in a beautiful pie
She is gone but she used to be mine

This song by Sara Bareilles speaks to all parts of my soul! As I look back on the old me, there is so much I wish I could tell myself:

  1. Trying your best is enough, even if nobody else agrees
  2. You are unbreakable
  3. You are loved
  4. Your flaws are what makes you uniquely you.
  5. “The One” will enhance your life, not complicate it
  6. Trust your gut
  7. Don’t dumb yourself down because others are intimidated
  8. Tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth
  9. Be careful with the hearts of others
  10. You don’t have as much time as you think you do
  11. The faster you let go, the faster you will heal
  12. Everyone is not against you
  13. Your feelings will lie to you
  14. Don’t give up your power
  15. There are people who genuinely want to help you
  16. Disrespect gets worse not better
  17. Don’t wait for anyone else to do what you want to do
  18. It’s OK to be alone
  19. Everyone is battling their own demons
  20. Forgive quickly
  21. Apologize quickly
  22. Save
  23. You don’t always have to explain yourself
  24. The time will never be just right
  25. Revenge only feels sweet momentarily
  26. If someone “randomly” pops into your head, call them.
  27. Your life doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s
  28. Don’t buy so much stuff. It won’t make you happier.
  29. Follow passions, not money
  30. Surround yourself with people who want the best for you
  31. Your parents did the best they knew how
  32. If you continue to give, they will continue to take.
  33. There is purpose in the pain
  34. Everything will work out fine.
  35. God is in control
